I think by now we all know that it's possible to eat well locally. But, did you know it's possible to have a really good New Jersey cocktail? Enter Tree City Vodka.
Tree City Vodka is delicious. It is smooth-drinking on it's own with a sweet finish that supports adding a few good ingredients for a killer cocktail. But it's also made with 100% single-source New Jersey corn from Etch Farms in Monroe Township. And the entire distilling process is done at Heathermeade Distilling, the parent company in Kenilworth that is owned by Cranford residents Rich Bentrewicz and Michael Maggio.

I've bartended a few events with Rich and recognize a kindred spirit in his excitement for the process of making something that people will enjoy. And for trying new things. At any given day in their tasting room, you will find several seasonal vodka infusions and maybe a whisky or two in a barrel or a bottle that Rich is not selling but flexing creative muscle on.
The only place you can get try the Tree City infusions is in their tasting room, but it is very easy to infuse it on your own at home. Simply combine vodka and fresh fruit, vegetables, herbs and/or spices in a glass container. Leave it for 2-3 days, strain the vodka and then repeat the process until you have the desired level of flavor.
Pineapple Sage Martni
- 2 oz. pineapple-infused vodka
- 1/2 oz. triple sec
- juice of one orange
- splash of lime juice
- 3-4 torn fresh sage leaves
Shake all ingredients vigorously over ice to release oils in sage leaves, then strain into a martini glass.
